MemberReally weird, I have no idea what that is, but just today I saw the same thing in my puppyās stool! At first I thought maybe oats or something he picked up, but after I checked a bit more, not oats, and I couldnāt figure out what else it could be. Hopefully someone here has an answer for this.

MemberMeat-based. Dog are biologically and physically made to eat meat not plants. If you look at their anatomy, meat is the only food that is biologically appropriate and the most natural to our pups. I would personally never go plant-based, I donāt even think Iād go back to just kibble! lol

MemberYeah he chews up turkey necks just fine. They get chicken feet and wings, pork neck and femurs, turkey neck, marrow bones, lamb femurs, whole rabbit, and pork and beef hooves and he seems to chew everything really well. Itās just the pork ribs that heāll swallow.
Is there anything I should look out for as far as there being a problem with the ribs heās swallowed?November 21, 2014 at 10:04 pm in reply to: Eating Raw Meaty Bones #58105 Report Abuse Edit Post VisibilityLord F
MemberI give my dogs RMBs several times a week; as a regular part of their meals and for recreational chew time. My oldest dog (heās a 100lb lab) swallows pork ribs whole. I havenāt seen any problems in him. His poops are healthy and he never heaves/vomits. Is this okay for him? They get a pork rib every other day, sometimes heāll chew it, sometimes just swallows.

MemberVital Essentials is my favorite! Theyāre the company that I found that uses 100% raw meat and organs, which is something I love. Dogs are made to eat meat and the enzymes in their bodies are made to break down and absorb the nutrients from meat, not plants! I now do homemade raw but Vital is definitely my go-to brand if I need a quick meal for my pups. I always push their products at the pet store I work at and have heard good things from other people that tried it! Theyāre a very small company as well and thatās another thing I love about them. The only thing is, itās definitely the most raw like of all the patties Iāve tried! Once thawed it looks exactly like what it is; ground organs and muscle meat, and blood! But my dogs absolutely love it. Good Luck!

MemberIs raw green tripe the same thing as beef tripe? The mexican market I buy meat from always has it, labeled as āBeef Tripeā. Itās white though.
Which organ meats should I be feeding? I heard that heart is considered muscle meat and so are gizzards, so what is organ? Kidney, lung.. what else?November 7, 2014 at 10:49 pm in reply to: Suggested Raw Dog Food Menus? #56569 Report Abuse Edit Post VisibilityLord F
MemberI just barely made the switch to raw for two of my dogs, we feed them raw in the morning and kibble in the early evening. For my 4 month old puppy, he gets half of his food raw, so his full morning meal. We expect him to get 35lbs. For our senior, we starting off by feeding him 1/4 raw per day, so he gets the same portion as the puppy, with a cup of kibble added. Heās 100lbs! I just started this a week ago! I just went out and bought their meat for this week. Iām so new to making it completely balanced and thatās why Iām starting with half kibble, until I get this down. Hereās what they got last week each:
Friday/Sunday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday AM:
5.7 oz Boneless, skinless chicken breast
1.3 oz beef kidney
Saturday/Monday/Wednesday AM:
5.7 oz pork stew meat (boneless)
1.3 oz beef kidney
1 egg
They got turkey necks and cow feet throughout the week as well. This week I switched to a different menu:
Saturday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday:
1 pork rib
1.3 oz pork liver
2 oz beef heart
2 oz turkey gizzards
Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday:
1.3 oz pork liver
3 oz turkey gizzard
2.7 oz beef heart
1 tbs canned salmon
In the PM they get either Acana or Orijen, we switch between the two every night. I now give them an egg once a week, they get turkey and pork necks throughout the week. Iām gonna stop by a Whole Foods tomorrow to get whole raw sardine and feed them this twice a week in addition to the regular meal and omit the canned salmon. I know itās really basic, but I just wanted to know what I can do to make it more varied and more balanced. Iād like to start now for when I switch them off kibble. My senior also gets probiotics in capsule form to help with his digestion, he gets gas easily. What can I add to his food instead of giving him 4 capsules a day? THANKS!Lord F
MemberA local pet store called Theresaās is selling these little packs for $1 a piece. All these for $29! This is 20lbs of Acana.

October 27, 2014 at 3:37 pm in reply to: Help! New puppy parents soon ā our heads are spinning. Raw & Kibble #55729 Report Abuse Edit Post VisibilityLord F
MemberHi!
I am definitely a raw lover. Unfortunately I have 2 large dogs and 1 puppy that we expect to be large-ish as well! (which is an Aussie mix, so cute!) So as you can imagine, raw is expensive for us. We switched to half raw, half kibble, and it works amazingly!
We do raw for breakfast and kibble in the evening. We do splurge on Orijen for their kibble, but they are doing so great on it.
Another thing, Iāve recently decided to switch to store bought meat instead of raw sold in pet stores. Buying the pet food raw, youāre paying anywhere between $7-$13 per pound! Or you can go to a butcher or grocery store and get meat for $2-$5 per pound. They like it more anyway! Plus, youāre paying for the added vitamin/minerals or veggies that they donāt need, theyāre getting a balanced diet with regular raw meat plus kibble.
As for Honest Kitchen, I love them too. I buy a big box of Preference and put 1/3 cup with their raw every other morning. It lasts forever and they like it, surprisingly. One of my dogs HATES vegetables/fruits, but she eats this, so lucky me!
Good luck with your puppy!October 27, 2014 at 1:01 pm in reply to: Let's talk meat grinders! #55723 Report Abuse Edit Post VisibilityLord F
MemberThanks for all the suggestions guys! I think Iāll probably opt for a little pricier one for the quality. I wouldnāt want to get one just for the cheaper price and end up breaking it when I try to feed it a rabbit carcass! lol
thanks again.October 23, 2014 at 6:14 pm in reply to: Let's talk meat grinders! #55461 Report Abuse Edit Post VisibilityLord F
MemberThanks for all the recommendations! I wouldnāt be able to use a processor because I do plan on grinding up bones, rabbit, duck, and chicken to be specific.
Iāve heard that Weston is really good! It says on the website that the #8 can grind all the bones Iāve listed above. Does anyone have experience with this one personally? -
