I recently rescued a 5 y.o. aussie from the shelter. She is on antibiotics (doxycycline) for a Kennel cough. I’m a new dog owner and I am wondering about replenishing the “good” gut flora that has been wiped out by antibiotics.

Yes, you should give probiotics for at least 2 weeks after antibiotics and periodically thereafter. Human ones are fine. Look for at least 9 different strains, the more, the better. Kefir(found in the yogurt aisle) is a good source of probiotics with 10-12 strains. If you order online, Swanson’s has so many different things. Otherwise, your local health food store is a good bet.
