“Dog flu is highly contagious. All that means is that it spreads easily. But only under certain circumstances, largely close confinement of dogs in kennels and shelters. The average dog out in the open air? Not much likelihood of catching dog flu. And those that get exposed may not even get sick”.

weezerweeksParticipantDr. Jean Dobbs says it’s highly contagious especially at dog parks. She even suggested keeping dogs at home if possible until the epidemic is over.
DogFoodieMemberCanine influenza is no scare tactic where I live. The anti-cruelty society has cancelled their largest fundraiser of the year due to more than a thousand reported cases and at least five deaths in the Chicago area.

http://abc7chicago.com/pets/bark-in-the-park-2015-canceled-by-dog-flu/644459/crazy4catsParticipantScary stuff, DF. I’m sure you will keep your pups safe. Hopefully it will come to an end soon. Haven’t heard anything about it yet in my area.
Dog_ObsessedMemberAnyone know how widespread the outbreak is? It’s scary stuff. 🙁
C4DMemberIt’s in my area and several places are not boarding. The sad thing is I know someone who had their dog kenneled @ a vet’s boarding facility while on spring break and when they came back it had caught something during the stay and died. :'(
Dog_ObsessedMemberI’m so sorry your friend had to go through that C4D. :'(
The outbreak appears to be mostly in the midwest right now, though I know these things don’t stay local for long. 🙁susan sMemberIm in NW Iowa. and we have cases of it here. I work with a dog rescue and one of the fosters have about 6 dogs sick right now.
