Bobby dogMemberHey Arkari:
Thanks so much for sharing the list:) I made a very quick list of the Pro Plan and One lines of canned cat food to determine if I could use any in a pinch. My list is only compiled looking at ingredients alone, for example food without artificial colors, flavors, wheat, corn, soy, fish etc. I will post that when I get a moment just in case your interested. I took the time to look into it because there are always coupons floating around for these two Purina canned cat food lines. Thanks again!Akari_32ParticipantI’d love to see those when you’re done! I’d be perfect to go along with mine :p PetSmart currently has the Pro Plan on sale. I can’t remember for how much exactly, but it’s pretty cheap! I want to say like 69 cents a can, or something…? I dunno lol The only one of the Purina One I’d use regularly is the Healthy Metabolism. It actually looks pretty good. Are there any coupons for the Pro plan right now? I know there’s a $1 off 6 for Prurina One right now. I managed to snag THREE of those coupons online LOL
Bobby dogMemberYou can print as many of those Pro Plan coupons as you want off the Purina website, but I can only do it one at a time. If I understand the “rules” printed on the coupon (you would be able to verify this for me coupon guru), it doesn’t state one coupon for purchase so I guess it would be up to the store how many cans/coupons you could use/buy at one time. I will dig up the list in a minute. I don’t believe the Healthy Metabolism fit my ingredient criteria.
Bobby dogMemberOut of the Purina Pro Plan and One canned food lines, the flavors I listed are possibilities for my cats. I listed the ingredients that I don’t like to see in pet food but are however included in the selections below. Out of the One line the only one I would feed is the Classic. The Savory, Smart Blend Healthy Metabolism, and Pairings recipes all include wheat gluten, corn starch, meat by-products, soy protein, artificial color & flavor, K3.
No matter what I might say about Purina, the cats do like their canned cat food. So here are the lines and flavors that I would feed under the Pro Plan and One canned foods. I hope that it can contribute to your list.
Purina Pro Plan:
Finesse – K3, artificial flavors, meat by-products: Chic & LiverSavor – K3, artificial flavors, fish, meat by-products:
Beef & Carrots, Chic & Spinach, Salmon & Wild Rice, and Turkey & VegFocus – K3, added color, artificial flavor, fish, meat by-products:
Chic & Beef (lists salmon in recipe), the kitten Chic & LiverPurina One:
Classic – all but Classic Turkey contain fish, all recipes include meat by-products, artificial flavor & color, corn oil, and K3:
Classic Turkey (no fish), Classic Beef, or Classic ChicBobby dogMemberWhoops! I meant there are Purina One canned cat food coupons from their website, not Pro Plan!! Sorry.
Akari_32ParticipantI feed the dogs canned pro plan, too. They eat anything, eatable or not LOL Haley can’t handle straight dry food, so I mix with canned. PetCo puts out free prop plan can coupons every so often, so I stock up on them.
Bobby dogMemberBobby will eat anything and does well on everything I have tried so far; I do kibble and canned or fresh meat also. Out of Purina’s Pro Plan recipes for dogs I would feed the Select beef or chic & brown rice canned formulas and the Select chic & brown rice dry. I would also feed the Beyond One formulas. Bobby is on a rotation diet and so far I can feed GF or grain inclusive with no issues.
On another subject, I was looking for coupons on the Purina site and saw they are adding new flavors to the Beyond One line for dogs. It looks like they are also changing the dry cat Beyond One formulas, adding more flavors, and adding canned food. The canned will be grain inclusive and GF. They will be out in the summer so they will probably have promos for it. I will be checking out the canned cat food when they debut it.Akari_32ParticipantThe One Beyond is actually a pretty decent food, and my dogs love it. Can’t wait for the wet cat food to come out! I’ll be keeping an eye on that for sure.
Bobby dogMemberI would feed One Beyond over any of the Pro Plans; especially for the price they charge for Pro Plan. Canned or fresh meat can always be added to up the protein % if needed. Here’s the link for the new One Beyond cat food products:
http://www.purinaonebeyond.com/learn-more/introducing-the-new-beyond-cat-food-lineThey look like they might be decent, but I am sure they are going to include my favorite ingredient (not) regardless, K3.
Akari_32ParticipantI don’t feed the dogs dry pro plan unless I get a reeeeally good deal on it. It’s been about a year since that’s happened, and I don’t see that happening again anytime soon lol Even then I can still get a better deal on Wellness most of the time. Haley is at a point now where anything with too much corn causes her to drop weight. I took her off Purina One and put her back on Wellness CORE and she gained all her weight back. Then I tried Purina One Beyond because it was super cheap after coupons (10 bucks for 20+ pounds), and she was doing really well on it. We’re back to wellness again, keeping the rotation going. Thankfully she doesn’t need all grain free, because we seriously have a thing of dog food for each dog right now, and it’s mom driving crazy LOL Can’t wait for the the Purina One to be gone so Haley and Dweezle can be on the same food again. Also can’t wait to try Nutrisource, and a few other foods…. >=3
Anyways, back to the cat LOL I’ll be keeping an eye out for those new foods. I’m interesting in seeing what they do with that grain free one, not that I’m likely to try anything dry with him. More out of curiosity lol As for the k3, you can’t expect *that* much from Purina LOL
Oh and kitty kitty is going to get neutered Thursday! Lucky him LOL
Bobby dogMemberWell good luck Thursday! I don’t see anything wrong with Purina in a rotation, that’s one of the good things about rotation, you get a variety that hopefully balances out the diet of our fur babies. I was just commenting on what I see as a better recipe in One as opposed to the Pro Plans and the price point of Pro Plan food.
When I was on Purina’s site the other day, I was looking up dog food for my neighbor who asked for suggestions on Purina (they are only open to Purina right now). They feed straight Dog Chow so at this point just about anything is better for their dog. Anyway, I saw they have several different varieties under the Pro Plan Select like GF, puppy, different flavors, and other options. I thought they only offered one Select variety. They make so many selections under each variety it’s hard to keep up. Thanks for the coupon info again!
Akari_32ParticipantOh I know. I bothers the hell out of me how everyone is like “Oooooooh Pro Plan is so great, Pro Plan is this, Pro Plan is that, Pro Plan was fed to last 8 Westminster Kennel Club best in show winners, blah blah blah!” *Bashes face against wall*
Yeah, their line is huge. PetSmart has like an entire half of an isle for just their dog line. The cat line isn’t so big, but thats ok with me lol
One and One Beyond are two different “brands” so to speak. One (SmartBlends– red bags for dogs, and blue for cats) are still very much corn based, while the One Beyond is the barley and rice ones (yellow bags). In case you didn’t realize :p
And as I’m sitting here typing, the cat came up on the couch and cuddled up next to me 🙂 Yay for kitty love!
Bobby dogMemberGotta love kitty love! Thanks for the Purina info. I didn’t check out the “One” for my neighbor just the One Beyond and I probably won’t considering they are more corn based. I don’t really keep up on Purina except for canned cat food. Years ago I fed my JRT Pro Plan then switched to Blue Buffalo when they began marketing their food nationally. She did very well on both, but I am sure the recipes were very different from what they are now.
I always had Pro Plan Select in the back of my mind as a choice I would throw out there if they were ever interested in upgrading. I had a feeling they would only be open to Purina. I recommended both to them but I would just rather see them choose One Beyond since it is a simpler recipe and I feel the switch from Dog Chow to One Beyond will have a better chance of success. I think they will choose Beyond One anyway for both convenience and price.
I actually think I will get a small bag of One Beyond for Bobby to try; I saw a coupon for it. I like the idea of being able to feed a kibble that could easily be bought from a grocery store in case I was not able to take care of Bobby in an emergency. Some of my friends and family are not dog people let alone know how to feed one!
Akari_32ParticipantPurina One Beyond gets 3.5 starts as does the Pro Plan Selects Natural Chicken and Brown Rice. For the price, I’d have them go for the One Beyond. Sam’s Club actually sells the huge bag (34 pounds?) for like 30 bucks. Pro Plan runs about $50 for 30 pounds, if I recall correctly? Plus Pro Plan uses animal digest. That stuff weirds me out. lol
Give it a try! The lamb has more calories, than the chicken, if thats something you’re looking for. I’ve got Bentley on Pure Balance right now, the grain free one, and he’s doing good on that one, as well.
I’m trying to teach the cat to seek out attention, rather than run around the house causing trouble. This is the first time he’s ever come over to me looking for attention. He’s walked past to get a little rub on his way through, but he’s never stuck and round and asked for pets. I noticed he’s got a bump on the side of his neck that much be really itchy because he sure was happy to get it scratched! I don’t know if its a bug bite (I’ll be putting him on Comfortis when we go to the vet thursday), or a boo boo from Bentley always chewing on him trying to get him to play. I keep telling that dog that the cat’s gunna eat him lol
Bobby dogMemberI think you will find success with that approach! That’s what worked for me when I was crazy enough to have the JRT pup and two kittens. When I started keeping them active when I was home, they eventually started seeking out my attention. Then it was just a matter of tiring them out until I was ready to sleep.
I agree about the animal digest too that’s why IMO I think the Beyond One is a simpler and better recipe. I think they will buy the Beyond One. They either belong to Costco or BJ’s but I didn’t even think to tell them to look at those places for it; I will next time I talk to them. At least they can get a small bag from the grocery store or Wal-Mart start.
I fed the PB GF and had great results. At some point I will feed it again but I will probably try their new GF flavor. I don’t worry too much with calories, Bobby has endless energy on everything I have fed him so far. But, in the future if I need to consider calories, I will keep that in mind about the lamb.
Akari_32ParticipantHe’s approached me several times again tonight! He tends to hang around for a minute or two, then go off a short distance (like the back of the couch behind my head), and keep “guard” or watch the dog. He’s also hitting off a bit better with Bentley. He likes the dog from a distance best (hey, even I don’t blame him for that LOL), but tonight the cat was starting games with him. Annoying games. Like, flat-out-sprint-across-the-house-and-see-if-the-dog-can-catch-him games. Omg I was ready to kill them both LOL
Anyways, I made room in the dog food cabinet for all this cat food. Before I started, I pulled out two bags of food to make room for the cans, went into the kitchen for a minute, and came back out to this…
I guess the dogs have a new item on their menu LOL
Anyways, I sorted out all the cat food so that he gets Friskies Special Diet every other day to every two days. There’s too many to spread it out more than that, but it should be ok, I think. Here’s my stash:
That can of Pedigree (sshhhhhhhhh), that’s it. Everything behind that is cat food. I could have stacked more, but I was trying to keep daily portions as separate as possible. This cat is set for a while, that’s for sure! Lol

Bobby dogMemberThe pic is adorable. I love when they help out and lie on top of or get into things we are working on! He looks very happy and content. Very nice stash by the way!
I saw that Pedigree peaking out of your stash. Pedigree is actually what brought me to this site. My Vet sent an e-mail to all her clients about illnesses she had been treating that could have been avoided with better nutrition. She made up lists of suggested foods and what to look for in foods. I saw I was feeding my cats poorly. Then I looked into Bobby’s food and found I fed a good kibble, but not good canned; I was feeding Pedigree. So I went on a search and found DFA.
Bobby was yeasty, smelled like a bag of fish flavored Fritos, was scratching all the time, and had a red groin and tail area. I always put organic coconut oil on him, gave him baths once a week during flea season, and used a flea med but was fighting a losing battle. It never dawned on me to look into his diet. A month after I stopped feeding Pedigree his skin problems were almost gone. He is sensitive to fleas and still had small red bumps from bites, but his skin condition was 200% improved in my eyes. I mostly feed 4Health and Pure Balance canned now, you can’t beat the quality for a $1.00!
I just started a fresh garlic regimen for Bobby trying to stay ahead of flea season. Since he is not a smelly and itchy mess I am hoping he will not attract the fleas like he has the past two years. Fingers crossed!
I also saw the Purina One for dogs in your cabinet. I have been slowly putting together a grocery store list of canned foods based on ingredients alone from Purina (like the Pro Plan and One list I made for cat food). The only “One” variety that made my list was the Classic recipes. The Tender Cuts in Gravy contain meat by-products, wheat gluten, corn starch modified, soy flour, and added color. The ingredients I don’t like in the Classic Round Recipes are meat by-products and carrageenan. Neither line contains chelated minerals (I look for that in food) but the Classics would work for me if they have coupons or good deals on them. Here’s my Purina One canned dog food list if you’re interested:
Purina One Smart Blend Classic Round Recipes canned – non-chelated minerals, meat by-products, and carrageenan in each recipe:
Beef & Brown Rice
Chic & Brown Rice
Lamb & Long Grain Brown Rice
Turkey & BarleyMy mom knows I have been changing my dog and cats diets so she started picking up Purina food for me with her coupons. At this time in her life the only outing she makes is to the grocery store; she is a coupon queen in her own right. She could not remember what I look for in pet food so I decided to work on a grocery store list for her. I do love and appreciate that she is thinking of us so the least I could do is make it simple for her!
Akari_32ParticipantFor the dogs canned food, I honestly just get what’s cheap. The Pedigree was free (3 big cans), the Purina One was on clearance at PetSmart for 70 cents each, and I have coupons for $1 off 3 cans, the alpo was 94 cents after BOGO sale and coupons (I got like 10 cans of that), the pro plan was free lol Haley needs canned mixed in her dry or she can’t eat very well, and gets upset tummy. I split a can between Haley and Dweezle, it’s not a big part of their diet, so I don’t worry about it too much. If they ate more of it, I’d be looking for better ones, but I figure it doesn’t hurt. They grew up on all the nasty stuff, as it is lol
How much are you givng for the garlic? I’d imagine it keeps mosquitoes away, too? Flea and heartworm prevention is sooooo expensive!
Oh, and expect some good stories of drugged kitty tomorrow LOL The vey said no food after 8 and no water after midnight. I don’t get off work till 8 anyways, so I gave him a big can of wellness, and that’s all he gets! He doesn’t drink, but I’ll take up the water dishes anyways.
crazy4catsParticipantAkari- Your cat is so cute. Isn’t fun finding them in unpredictable places! I just love them. Cat haters just do not know what they are missing! I’m glad you get to keep him. That kitty is definitely not wild. He does not show any of the signs of some of the kitties I’ve rescued. He is way too used to people. He definitely belongs in your home. Good job!
Bobby dogMemberI am using 2 cloves of fresh garlic, sliced about 10 minutes before feeding, three days a week.
http://www.dogsnaturallymagazine.com/garlic-for-dogs-poison-or-medicine/I used to feed Bug Off from Springtime to my horses years ago when I boarded them. When I moved them to my home, I stopped feeding it. Two years of having the opportunity to be around them 24/7, I never saw any difference with bugs and ticks. I use fly predators for the barn area, groom them daily to check for ticks and use an herbal bug repellant spray now.
Last summer I used the Bug Off tablets for Bobby with no success. However, I still want to give fresh garlic a try especially since I changed his diet. I am hoping since he is healthier and does not have that yeasty smell the fleas might not be so attracted to him and the garlic might have a chance to work. If I could get away without a chemical flea preventative I would be a happy person.
I still will be giving Bobby his Ivermectin for HW prevention. I usually use Frontline Plus during flea season only. So I guess I will see how a fresh and healthy Bobby that smells like garlic does during flea season this year. If he starts showing signs of attracting fleas, I will have Frontline on hand to use.
That was a good deal on the Purina One canned! FYI, I was on your coupon website last night and they have a link to Eagle Pack coupons posted under pets. That is a sister company to Wellness. It is a $1.00 off two cans of Eagle Pack canned dog food and $3.00 off dry dog or cat food. They also had Sheba cat food coupons.
http://printablecouponsanddeals.com/Category/pet-productsPoor kitty. Sedated cats only ever went two ways for me. They either have slept it off with no problems or were freaked out and needed my complete attention until the seditive wore off. Good luck tomorrow!!
crazy4catsParticipantBobby dog- Are you giving garlic to your cats too, or just dog?
Bobby dogMemberHi C4c:
I was thinking about it, but I haven’t looked into it yet. I have never tried any garlic supplement or fresh garlic for them. I suppose since flea season is just around the corner I better get on it!Have you ever given garlic to your kitties?
I know the cat that will eat anything will probably eat fresh garlic. He likes the meatballs I make for Bobby and they have a good amount of garlic (and tumeric) in them. I am just not sure about the other kitties.
Akari_32ParticipantI still don’t know if I’m keeping him or not. Mom is giving him a month. He’s growing on her, though! You can’t not love him lol He does make a really bad ferral cat, doesn’t he? :p He loves to chase though. Bentley ate his first stringy toy, so I had to buy him a new one, and it’s got a mouse on the end. Omg I can get him going with that thing! But he would much rather be fed than work for his food, that’s for sure LOL My friend was feeding a few times a week since she found him, so I’m sure that’s how he managed. But when there’s a frog on the window, the whole neighborhood knows XD
Eagle pack and Wellness…? Huh. We don’t get Eagle pack here (PetCo is supposed to have it but they don’t). What’s the Sheba coupon for? B10 G2? Those are the ones I found a few weeks ago. If they have more I may nab them :p
Bobby dogMemberHi Akari:
Sending positive “we got to keep this adorable, sweet, furry, kitty” thoughts your way!I am not sure if the pet stores near me sell Eagle pack cans either. Only two out of the three pet boutiques/chains near me are listed on their site as selling Eagle Pack but that could just be the dry food. One of the chains I go to is Pet Supplies Plus so I’ll see at the end of the month when I make the pet food run. Petco and Petsmart are about 7 – 10 miles in a direction I never travel anymore so that is why I only order over the Internet from them. I printed the EP coupons just in case.
The Sheba is $1.00 off 24 cans or multipack and a b10 g2 coupons. I printed several of each. They expire 4/24/14.
Akari_32ParticipantWe were having a name debate on Facebook this morning (yay for Facebook apps and boring classes LOL) and mom wants to name him Gary (you know, Gary the Snail? Spongebob?), claiming that if she has to keep a cat she doesn’t want, she can call it whatever she wants to lol They needed a name for his county license, so I just went along with it. But I still don’t like Gary. I like Gizmo or Haru. Moms other choice is Roger. Who names a cat Roger??
Anyways, he’s back home, and sleeping off his drugs. When he is awake, he’s either dazed looking, or looks like he’s plotting the worlds doom LOL When he perks up later I’ll give him some food. Everyone at the vet loves him, they all say how sweet he is 🙂 He’s licked his “boo boo” a couple times, but once you push his head away a few times, he gives up in a drugged stupor and goes to sleep lol
theBCnutMemberDon’t worry about a name. My kids can never agree about names for our pets so they all have multiple names and they have no problem with the idea of different people calling them different names.
jakes momMemberI agree with BCnut, all my guys have multiple names, too. They come to the sound of your voice, they don’t care what you call them.
Just curious, where do you live, Akari? I’ve never heard of a county licensing cats, just dogs. Boy, hope they don’t start doing that here in Ohio!
The cat’s adorable by the way. Thanks for the pics! And I’m jealous of your food stash! lol
I’m still trying new foods for my kitty, Smudge, for her ear infection issue. Hoping to see improvement on this “limited ingredient” food.theBCnutMemberWe’ve had county licensing for cats for many, many years, about 30.
jakes momMemberInteresting! Glad we don’t…at one time I had 13 cats!
Bobby dogMemberHey Akari:
Sounds like Gary is doing well!I like Roger, is it Roger from American Dad? He’s one of my favorite cartoon characters.
You would be wise to let your mom name the cat. It’s hard not to keep an animal you named!
Jakes Mom:
You have me beat, the most I have ever had is nine! But the ninth cat was my neighbor’s cat who decided to move in after they got a Boxer puppy. We felt bad for the kitty so we made room for her to live with us. They would buy food and take her to the Vets when needed. Gotta love them cats.jakes momMemberDoes anyone know how long it will take to see improvement in Smudge if the food change is helping her ear? A couple of weeks? Month? I’m anxious and hopeful!
Bobby dog…can’t help it, seems like the strays always know where the suckers live, don’t they?theBCnutMemberI’ve never had more than 4 unless you count the pregnant cat I rescued right before she popped. She had seven tuxedo kittens, but they all went to new homes.
theBCnutMemberIf it is an allergy/food intolerance, you should see some improvement in about a week if you are eliminating the cause, but it can take 10 weeks for all symptoms to disappear.
Akari_32ParticipantThe licensing is part of the rabies shot. It’s just a way to make sure all pets are kept up to date on their rabies. They *say* they’ll charge you $200 if you don’t keep it up every year but they lie lol
Wellness sent out new $1 off cans coupons, Jakes Mom, you should sign up and see if you can get any good deals! 🙂
Bobby dogMemberAkari:
I didn’t get my Wellness coupons! Natura Pet is sending me some coupons/promo items. They said I should receive them in 14-21 days.Is there an easy way to clear the carb calculator or is clearing out each area manually the only way to do it?
Akari_32ParticipantYou didn’t?? Hm….
I use the tab button and clear it out as a I refill it. Other than that, there’s no one-click-clear-out.
Akari_32ParticipantUpdate before bed 🙂
The poop guy doesn’t want to eat. He doesn’t seem to be having averse reactions to the whole ordeal, so hopefully he’s just not feeling good from the sedatives and meds. He did eat a few bites, but left the rest. I just packed it back up for the night in a container, and I’ll give it to him again in the morning.
He was so drugged up when I brought him home that we was curled up in his spot on the back of the couch, and he moved a bit in his sleep and fell off LOL He’s fine, though. Wasn’t too happy about getting some up like that, but he didn’t hurt himself. He’s just sort of moping about, and sleeping, otherwise.
He is really bad and licking his incision, though. I think I’ll have to send mom out for a cone of shame tomorrow. He’s pretty persistent about it, and the whole area is red and unhappy looking as it is with out him sand papering away at it. Do you think we should get him a cone?
jakes momMemberthanks, I’m going to check out the wellness site, tried a few cans and all the cats love it. Hope Gary’s feeling better today. Before you put a cone on him, I might try a bit of some kind of “hot spot” lotion , see if that soothes the area enough that he leaves it alone.
Akari_32ParticipantSo, every time I open the drier, this happens.
LOL
So far we haven’t coned him yet. He’s getting a little better about always licking his incision, but I still catch him every now and then. He’s feeling better though, and jumped the baby gate to get into moms room last night (and ran around my room meowing all night). He was hunting the dogs last night too lol He doesn’t like anyone touching around his “private area” even before he was fixed (took and the vet to hold him down to check and see if he was neutered or not), so I don’t see anything that’s not in spray form working out very well LOL
Bobby dogMemberAwwwwww! Too cute.
He was probably uncomfortable from the time you got him considering he had a UTI and now he’s uncomfortable from the operation. It sounds like he is feeling better now so maybe he will start leaving the incision alone and continue with playing and keeping himself busy with other things. I have never had to cone anyone, but I came close with one of my female kitties. She did end up removing a few of her stitches, but it was a day before I was going to have them removed so she ended up being okay.
I did get my coupons, I just didn’t check the right e-mail.
Akari_32ParticipantSo we went to Goodwill today, and picked up a mesh cat harness, and a (surprisingly!) brand new break away cat flea collar– in sexy male kitty purple. I want to put him on Comfortis, but I can’t afford the $100-something it is to get him a 6 month box of it. I’ve already spent almost $300 on him with his antibiotics and neutering, and another $230 on Haley today getting her shots and Trifexis. $600 in a week and half is more than enough for me, considering I only make about $230 a week…. Had to dig into my savings AND my double secret savings AND my dog food money (good thing I’ve got about a months worth of dog food put away lol) to pay for these animals. They’re lucky they’re cute!!
Anyways, I have a video uploading of the cats first experience with his harness. I’d like to take him outside on one of the FlexiLeashes at some point, and get him some outdoor fun. He’s always trying to get out. I think he misses having the freedom to roam. But, he took having the harness put on much better than I thought he would! He’s also good about not outright scratching, which helps a lot when torturing him for his own good lol He just pushes with his paws, and uses his claws more for like traction, rather than to injure (i feel his claws, but they don’t hurt). The only time he’s ever actually gotten me was when we were playing, and I was a little too slow to get away lol The biggest problem was getting the thing over his fat head LOL I didn’t think it would fit at first! Bentley came over and started picking on him, and got him to lighten up and play little bit, though, so he had a chance to have a good interaction while in the harness. So as soon as thats done, I’ll post it. Its pretty great lol
Akari_32ParticipantHere it is 🙂
theBCnutMemberOH MY GOODNESS!!! Your dog is the perfect big brother for a kitten! Isn’t it funny how when you put something on a cat, it makes all of their legs fail to work properly.
Akari_32ParticipantThats how Bentley is every second of the day. Kitty-Kitty is getting used to it, and is even starting to enjoy it, for a short time, at least. Then he gets ticked off and starts digging his claws into either side of the dogs face until he squeals. Too bad for the cat that Bentley is completely stupid and doesn’t care, and just comes back for more *rolls eyes*
Oh gosh, it is SO funny how his legs just turn into jello when I put that thing on him LOL
Akari_32ParticipantTook the kitty outside this morning, and he had lots of fun!
I did, at one point, have to pick him up off of the porch and drop him in the middle of the yard. Once he realized he could actually walk in the harness, he scooted around the front yard and ate grass, and tried to hunt an egret, and learned about fire ants, and how if you lay in their hill or in their path, they bite the crap out of you LOL Poor guy XD He is still unsure about the harness, and tries to back out of it randomly when walking around (thats pretty funny lol), but once he has it on for a few minutes, he’s ok with it, and figures out that he can actually walk around in it. He also likes to hunt the plastic piece on the Flexi Leash :p
Bobby dogMemberHi Akari:
What a great Goodwill find!!!! It sounds like he is learning how to walk in his harness well. I used to work with a guy that took his cat out for a walk on a harness daily.I love Bently and Gary together. They are sooooo cute! Bently is really a cute dog.
I don’t use the meds you mentioned above so this may be a silly question, but will your Vet sell you a months supply of flea & heartworm meds? My vet will sell heartworm and flea meds by the month if needed; it helps if you are short on funds or for any other reason. She will also sell weekly supplies of other meds that she dispenses if she is able to. Also, have you checked online to see if you can get a better price? You would just have to get your Vet to write a prescription and fax it to them. One other thing to check into is the companies that make these meds sometimes offer rebates on their websites.
DogFoodieMemberMy vet sells monthly heartworm doses. When Sam, my Golden, was a tiny puppy he worked through several weight ranges within a period of time. I guess since those rebates come through the very, my vet gets the rebates and passes the savings along up front.
DogFoodieMemberHi guys, I’ve never read this thread since I don’t have cats, but a thought occurred to me today.
We know Diamond makes some of the 4 Health for dogs. Do they make the cat food as well?
Akari_32ParticipantI *can* get monthly doses, but not at this vet. Our other vet does. This vet doesn’t do enough business to sell individual doses. He has one exam room, and two techs. Our other vet has like 5 exam rooms, 2 vets, 5 or 6 techs, office staff, groomers, and they are always busy. Not to mention, its likes 20 minutes away in a direction we never go lol We only use them for when we need to use CareCredit, on big things. I’d rather go right down the street to the people we know best, and pay a little extra. We’ve been going there for like 15 years, and they know us. Plus, I don’t like how the other office has multiple vets. They both have very different views, and one doesn’t speak very good english (I think he’s from India? Not that I care, I just like to know what people are saying, especially when I’m forking out a bunch of money to them lol)
Elanco does offer rebates, yes. $10 for 6 month boxes, and $25 for yearly boxes. I just have to get on their website and do it. The last ones took like 8 months to get back!! :O
I know they have a GF dry cat food. I never looked to see if they had the grain inclusive (Diamond made) one. Tractor Supply is too far away for me to care much lol
