December 30, 2024 – Open Farm has identified small pieces of plastic film in limited production lots. These pieces are made from food-grade material, are non-toxic, thin, and malleable, and do not pose a health risk to dogs.
The issue occurred when some pieces of the liner from raw protein ingredients were not fully removed during manufacturing. Due to its high standards of quality and consumer satisfaction, Open Farm instructed distributors to destroy any potentially affected lots, and retailers to remove such products from shelves. Anyone who bought the lots can get a refund or replacement.
This is not a recall. The issue was one of quality, not safety. Open Farm remains one of our highest-rated dog food brands.
To prevent this issue in the future, Open Farm has implemented additional material handling requirements and enhanced quality inspections throughout the production process for these recipes.
