The Maltipoo is a small hybrid dog breed developed in the United States in the late 20th century. Known for their affectionate nature, playful energy, and low-shedding coats, Maltipoos were created to combine the best traits of the Maltese and the Poodle into one charming companion.

The breed’s origins lie in the rising popularity of Poodle mixes, with breeders aiming to produce a small, friendly dog that would fit well into family life while also being suitable for allergy sufferers. The Maltese contributed its loving, gentle temperament and long history as a devoted companion dog, while the Poodle added intelligence, trainability, and a hypoallergenic coat.

By the early 2000s, the Maltipoo had become one of the most popular hybrid breeds in the United States. While not officially recognized by major kennel clubs, Maltipoos are beloved for their friendly personality, adaptability, and cute, teddy bear-like appearance.

Maltipoos typically have soft, wavy or curly coats, often in shades of cream, white, apricot, or gray, though they can come in a variety of colors. Their expressive faces, round eyes, and button noses add to their irresistible charm, making them popular with families, singles, and seniors.

Known for their affectionate and sociable nature, Maltipoos thrive on human companionship and love to be at the center of family life. They form strong bonds with their owners and are happiest when they are involved in daily activities, whether it’s a walk around the block or curling up on the couch. Their friendly demeanor also makes them well-suited to homes with other pets.
